First Expand the virtual drive harddisk, if the function is grey out, remove any snapshot of the virtual machine and try again.
El Captain disk Utilities is not fully completely hence, facing some difficulties resizing the virtual drive after expanding the harddisk size.
sudo diskutil resizeVolume / R
Use command above to manually alter the size of the virtual harddrive.
